Beekeeping courses are useful, even for people who are already beekeepers. This is shown by a study carried out by researchers of the Ondokuz Mayıs University in Türkiye , which examined whether and how technical training for adults improves knowledge.
The results were clear: even in a country with a long and strong beekeeping tradition, training courses greatly improve beekeepers’ knowledge and help to correct common misconceptions.
Before the courses, for example, a large number of beekeepers gave incorrect answers to questions that were simple but very important, as well as:
“Crystallized honey is produced with sugar additives?”
“Bees produce honey from pollen?”
“The queen becomes an adult in 16 days?”
“The entrance hole of the hive should be placed facing north?”
“All bee diseases can be treated with pharm?”
Training remains an essential tool to face the new challenges of beekeeping, first of all climate change and emerging diseases.
