{"id":1707,"date":"2019-07-08T00:40:00","date_gmt":"2019-07-08T00:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/apimondia.org\/?p=1707"},"modified":"2025-12-03T00:57:21","modified_gmt":"2025-12-03T00:57:21","slug":"ogiek-honey-the-precious-nectar-linking-tradition-with-the-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/apimondia.org\/esp\/ogiek-honey-the-precious-nectar-linking-tradition-with-the-future\/","title":{"rendered":"Miel de Ogiek: El preciado n\u00e9ctar que une la tradici\u00f3n con el futuro"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Para los ogiek, la miel era la principal fuente de alimento durante sequ\u00edas, hambrunas y otras calamidades porque pod\u00eda conservarse durante mucho tiempo.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adem\u00e1s de ser un alimento b\u00e1sico, la miel desempe\u00f1aba un papel fundamental en diversas pr\u00e1cticas culturales ogiek: Se comerciaba con las comunidades vecinas y tambi\u00e9n se utilizaba como pago por la novia (al menos un debe, o recipiente de 30 kg, deb\u00eda entregarse a la familia de la novia). La miel era tan preciada que s\u00f3lo algunas personas pod\u00edan manejarla, y cuando se trataba de nuevas colmenas, una persona ten\u00eda que demostrar que era pura de coraz\u00f3n y que no afectar\u00eda negativamente a las colmenas ni a la miel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hogar de unos 35.000 miembros de la comunidad ogiek, el bosque de Mau ha sido objeto de una degradaci\u00f3n y destrucci\u00f3n sistem\u00e1ticas desde principios del siglo XX, cuando los ingleses lo explotaron para obtener madera con la que alimentar sus m\u00e1quinas de vapor. Desde la d\u00e9cada de 1980, la destrucci\u00f3n del bosque de Mau para plantaciones de t\u00e9 y flores, miner\u00eda del carb\u00f3n y silvicultura se ha generalizado. En los \u00faltimos 20 a\u00f1os se ha talado 60% del bosque.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazioneslowfood.com\/en\/slow-food-presidia\/ogiek-honey\/\">Baluarte Slow Food de la Miel de Ogiek<\/a>&nbsp;se puso en marcha para proteger el ecosistema del bosque de Mau y promover el valor de la cultura ancestral del pueblo ogiek a trav\u00e9s de la miel, su producto m\u00e1s importante. La cooperativa Macodev (Mariashoni Community Development), una organizaci\u00f3n comunitaria que agrupa a 12 grupos de apicultores, trabaja para aumentar los vol\u00famenes de producci\u00f3n, diferenciar los distintos tipos de miel producida, mejorar el envasado y promocionar la miel en tiendas, restaurantes y hoteles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Slow Food ha entrevistado recientemente a los representantes ogiek del Baluarte:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00bfCu\u00e1les son los principales cambios que se han producido desde la puesta en marcha del Baluarte?<br>Antes de la creaci\u00f3n del Baluarte en 2015, la miel se produc\u00eda principalmente para el consumo dom\u00e9stico y el intercambio con los vecinos, y solo se vend\u00eda una peque\u00f1a cantidad. Por ello, la formaci\u00f3n de la cooperativa Macodev ha desempe\u00f1ado un papel fundamental en la mejora de la cantidad y la calidad de la miel producida. El n\u00famero de colmenas ha aumentado de 200 en 2015 a 600 a finales de 2017. Esto ha dado lugar a un aumento de la cantidad de miel producida y, debido a la mejora de la calidad, los precios de la miel aumentaron de 100 chelines kenianos a 179 KES por kilogramo entre 2015 y 2017. La miel se vende actualmente en tiendas y un supermercado de las ciudades cercanas de Elburgon, Molo y Nakuru. Adem\u00e1s, el Baluarte ha sido testigo de una mayor participaci\u00f3n de las mujeres en las actividades ap\u00edcolas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u00bfQu\u00e9 importancia tiene la miel para la comunidad ind\u00edgena? \u00bfPuede hablarnos de algunas de las pr\u00e1cticas culturales en las que interviene la miel?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">El modo de vida de los Ogiek se basa en los recursos naturales que les proporciona el bosque: son cazadores-recolectores cuya actividad principal es la apicultura, pero algunos tambi\u00e9n cultivan y cr\u00edan animales. El bosque era un recurso compartido y cada clan ten\u00eda asignada una parte del bosque para gestionarlo de forma sostenible y beneficiarse as\u00ed de sus recursos. En una \u00e9poca, la apicultura era una actividad exclusiva de los hombres, sobre todo de los ancianos de la comunidad, a quienes se confiaba la construcci\u00f3n de las colmenas y la recolecci\u00f3n de la miel sin da\u00f1ar los \u00e1rboles. Los j\u00f3venes acompa\u00f1aban a sus padres a los colmenares para aprender las pr\u00e1cticas tradicionales, lo que garantizaba que los conocimientos relacionados con la apicultura se transmitieran de generaci\u00f3n en generaci\u00f3n. Parte de la iniciaci\u00f3n de un joven consist\u00eda en trepar a los \u00e1rboles para recoger la miel y soportar el aguij\u00f3n de las abejas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1100\" height=\"733\" src=\"https:\/\/apimondia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Ogiek-Honey-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1708\" srcset=\"https:\/\/apimondia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Ogiek-Honey-1.jpg 1100w, https:\/\/apimondia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Ogiek-Honey-1-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/apimondia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Ogiek-Honey-1-18x12.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1100px) 100vw, 1100px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">El vino tradicional tambi\u00e9n se elaboraba con miel cruda pura y una fruta conocida como rotonik, que procede de un \u00e1rbol (Kigelia africana) conocido en la comunidad como \u201c\u00e1rbol salchicha\u201d por la forma de sus frutos. La bebida se utilizaba en actos sociales, reuniones y ceremonias de iniciaci\u00f3n. Cuando una mujer daba a luz, su marido ten\u00eda que esperar 4 d\u00edas para ver al reci\u00e9n nacido. Durante esos 4 d\u00edas, preparaba el vino de miel que se beber\u00eda con la comunidad durante la presentaci\u00f3n oficial del ni\u00f1o. Cuando hab\u00eda conflictos, se celebraban reuniones para encontrar una soluci\u00f3n y se consum\u00eda vino de miel para simbolizar la uni\u00f3n de la comunidad. El vino tambi\u00e9n se utilizaba en los rituales que se celebraban durante calamidades como inundaciones, sequ\u00edas y rayos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00bfC\u00f3mo ha ayudado el Baluarte a preservar el ecosistema del bosque de Mau?<br>A trav\u00e9s del Baluarte, la comunidad ha redoblado sus esfuerzos para proteger el bosque de Mau como su hogar ancestral y promover sus pr\u00e1cticas ap\u00edcolas tradicionales, y la mayor\u00eda de los miembros de los grupos se han unido a las Asociaciones Forestales Comunitarias (AFC). Los productores de miel han participado en la plantaci\u00f3n de \u00e1rboles aut\u00f3ctonos para contrarrestar la introducci\u00f3n de \u00e1rboles ex\u00f3ticos en el bosque, que amenazan el futuro de la miel local \u00fanica. Adem\u00e1s, desde 2015, la comunidad Ogiek participa en iniciativas de turismo responsable en colaboraci\u00f3n con la Fundaci\u00f3n Slow Food para la Biodiversidad y NECOFA (la Red para la Agricultura Ecol\u00f3gica en \u00c1frica). Adem\u00e1s, la comunidad ha ganado recientemente una batalla legal de 8 a\u00f1os (en defensa de su derecho a vivir en el bosque) que era a su vez una continuaci\u00f3n de otras batallas legales que se remontan a la \u00e9poca colonial en la d\u00e9cada de 1930, cuando el pueblo Ogiek fue exterminado y expulsado de sus tierras ancestrales para hacer sitio a los colonos coloniales. La creaci\u00f3n de reservas forestales tambi\u00e9n ha impedido a los ogiek acceder a sus tierras. Los brit\u00e1nicos no reconocieron a los ogiek como tribu, lo que les habr\u00eda dado derecho a la tierra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1067\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/apimondia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Ogiek-Honey-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1709\" srcset=\"https:\/\/apimondia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Ogiek-Honey-2.jpg 1067w, https:\/\/apimondia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Ogiek-Honey-2-400x300.jpg 400w, https:\/\/apimondia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Ogiek-Honey-2-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/apimondia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Ogiek-Honey-2-16x12.jpg 16w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1067px) 100vw, 1067px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u00bfPor qu\u00e9 es importante hoy la resistencia a trav\u00e9s de la comida en la comunidad Ogiek?<\/strong><br>Se han producido varios cambios en la comunidad ogiek debido a la continua interacci\u00f3n con miembros de otras tribus, incluidos los pastores kikuyu y kipsigis. Algunos miembros de la comunidad ogiek han empezado a cambiar su modo de vida tradicional adoptando la cr\u00eda de ganado, la agricultura y otras actividades econ\u00f3micas. La interacci\u00f3n con el mundo exterior tambi\u00e9n ha contribuido significativamente a alterar el ecosistema forestal y, por tanto, el hogar de los Ogiek.
