{"id":3644,"date":"2026-09-06T09:47:24","date_gmt":"2026-09-06T09:47:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/apimondia.org\/?p=3644"},"modified":"2026-09-06T09:48:30","modified_gmt":"2026-09-06T09:48:30","slug":"tropilaelaps-mercedesae-an-emerging-threat-to-european-apiculture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/apimondia.org\/fra\/tropilaelaps-mercedesae-an-emerging-threat-to-european-apiculture\/","title":{"rendered":"Tropilaelaps mercedesae : une menace \u00e9mergente pour l'apiculture europ\u00e9enne"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">European apiculture. <strong>Early detection, surveillance and preparedness will be essential<\/strong> to reduce the impact of this invasive pest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dans le cadre de la <strong>BEE-GUARDS project<\/strong>, Apimondia organised a dedicated workshop on <em>Tropilaelaps<\/em> mites at the Kazakh Research Institute of Animal Husbandry and Feed Production (KazNIIZHiK), with the support of the local beekeeping association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The workshop brought together experts and beekeeping stakeholders to strengthen practical knowledge on the <strong>biology, reproduction, behaviour, detection, treatment and dispersal<\/strong> of <em>Tropilaelaps<\/em>. Around 28 participants attended in person, with additional participants joining online. Practical demonstrations included different mite detection methods and microscopic examination of live mites collected from bee colonies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A key message from the workshop was that Europe needs to strengthen its preparedness before the mites become established. This includes <strong>raising awareness among beekeepers and competent authorities, improving import controls, ensuring apiary registration, developing contingency plans and establishing surveillance programmes<\/strong> where these are not yet in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The workshop also provided valuable insights into beekeeping practices in Kazakhstan, including visits to local apiaries, traditional nomadic beekeepers and colonies of <em>Apis mellifera pomonella<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\ud83d\udcc4 <strong>Read the full workshop report in <a href=\"https:\/\/apimondia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Report-to-Apimondia-on-Tropilaelps-mite_draft-002.pdf\">this link<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>European apiculture.
