{"id":1707,"date":"2019-07-08T00:40:00","date_gmt":"2019-07-08T00:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/apimondia.org\/?p=1707"},"modified":"2025-12-03T00:57:21","modified_gmt":"2025-12-03T00:57:21","slug":"ogiek-honey-the-precious-nectar-linking-tradition-with-the-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/apimondia.org\/prt\/ogiek-honey-the-precious-nectar-linking-tradition-with-the-future\/","title":{"rendered":"Mel de Ogiek: O precioso n\u00e9ctar que liga a tradi\u00e7\u00e3o ao futuro"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Para o povo Ogiek, o mel era a principal fonte de alimento durante as secas, a fome e outras calamidades, pois podia ser conservado durante muito tempo.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Para al\u00e9m de ser um alimento b\u00e1sico, o mel desempenhava um papel fundamental em v\u00e1rias pr\u00e1ticas culturais Ogiek: Era comercializado com as comunidades vizinhas e tamb\u00e9m era utilizado para o pagamento do casamento (pelo menos um debe, ou recipiente de 30 kg, tinha de ser entregue \u00e0 fam\u00edlia da noiva). O mel era t\u00e3o precioso que s\u00f3 certas pessoas o podiam manusear e, quando se tratava de novas colmeias, a pessoa tinha de provar que era pura de cora\u00e7\u00e3o e que n\u00e3o iria afetar negativamente as colmeias ou o mel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lar de cerca de 35.000 membros da comunidade Ogiek, a Floresta Mau tem sido objeto de degrada\u00e7\u00e3o e destrui\u00e7\u00e3o sistem\u00e1ticas desde o in\u00edcio do s\u00e9culo XX, quando os ingleses a exploraram para obter madeira para alimentar as suas m\u00e1quinas a vapor. Desde a d\u00e9cada de 1980, a destrui\u00e7\u00e3o da Floresta Mau para a planta\u00e7\u00e3o de ch\u00e1 e flores, a extra\u00e7\u00e3o de carv\u00e3o e a silvicultura tem vindo a generalizar-se. Nos \u00faltimos 20 anos, foram cortados 60% da floresta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">O&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazioneslowfood.com\/en\/slow-food-presidia\/ogiek-honey\/\">Fortaleza Slow Food do Mel de Ogiek<\/a>&nbsp;foi lan\u00e7ado para proteger o ecossistema da Floresta Mau e promover o valor da cultura ancestral do povo Ogiek atrav\u00e9s do mel, o seu produto mais importante. A cooperativa Macodev (Mariashoni Community Development), uma organiza\u00e7\u00e3o de base comunit\u00e1ria que re\u00fane 12 grupos de apicultores, est\u00e1 a trabalhar para aumentar os volumes de produ\u00e7\u00e3o, diferenciar os v\u00e1rios tipos de mel produzidos, melhorar as embalagens e promover o mel em lojas, restaurantes e hot\u00e9is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Slow Food entrevistou recentemente os representantes Ogiek da Fortaleza:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Quais s\u00e3o as principais mudan\u00e7as que ocorreram desde o lan\u00e7amento do Presidium?<br>Antes do in\u00edcio do Presidium em 2015, o mel era produzido principalmente para consumo dom\u00e9stico e troca com os vizinhos, sendo apenas vendida uma pequena quantidade. A forma\u00e7\u00e3o da cooperativa Macodev desempenhou, por conseguinte, um papel fundamental na melhoria da quantidade e da qualidade do mel produzido. O n\u00famero de colmeias aumentou de 200 em 2015 para 600 no final de 2017. Isto levou a um aumento da quantidade de mel produzido e, devido \u00e0 melhoria da qualidade, os pre\u00e7os do mel subiram de 100 xelins quenianos para 179 KES por quilograma entre 2015 e 2017. O mel \u00e9 atualmente vendido em lojas e num supermercado nas cidades vizinhas de Elburgon, Molo e Nakuru. Al\u00e9m disso, a Fortaleza tem assistido a uma maior participa\u00e7\u00e3o das mulheres nas actividades ap\u00edcolas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Qual \u00e9 a import\u00e2ncia do mel para a comunidade ind\u00edgena? Pode falar-nos de algumas das pr\u00e1ticas culturais em que o mel est\u00e1 envolvido?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">O modo de vida dos Ogiek baseia-se nos recursos naturais fornecidos pela floresta - s\u00e3o ca\u00e7adores-colectores cuja principal atividade \u00e9 a apicultura, mas alguns tamb\u00e9m cultivam e criam animais. A floresta era um recurso partilhado e a cada cl\u00e3 era atribu\u00edda uma sec\u00e7\u00e3o da floresta para gerir de forma sustent\u00e1vel e, assim, beneficiar dos seus recursos. Em tempos, a apicultura era efectuada exclusivamente por homens, em particular os mais velhos da comunidade, a quem era confiada a constru\u00e7\u00e3o das colmeias e a colheita do mel sem danificar as \u00e1rvores. Os jovens acompanhavam os seus pais aos api\u00e1rios para aprenderem as pr\u00e1ticas tradicionais, o que assegurava a transmiss\u00e3o dos conhecimentos relativos \u00e0 apicultura de gera\u00e7\u00e3o em gera\u00e7\u00e3o. Uma parte da inicia\u00e7\u00e3o dos jovens consistia em trepar \u00e0s \u00e1rvores para recolher o mel e em resistir \u00e0 picada das abelhas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1100\" height=\"733\" src=\"https:\/\/apimondia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Ogiek-Honey-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1708\" srcset=\"https:\/\/apimondia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Ogiek-Honey-1.jpg 1100w, https:\/\/apimondia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Ogiek-Honey-1-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/apimondia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Ogiek-Honey-1-18x12.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1100px) 100vw, 1100px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">O vinho tradicional tamb\u00e9m era feito a partir de mel puro e cru e de um fruto conhecido como rotonik, que prov\u00e9m de uma \u00e1rvore (Kigelia africana) que \u00e9 conhecida na comunidade como \u201c\u00e1rvore da salsicha\u201d devido \u00e0 forma dos seus frutos. A bebida era utilizada durante eventos sociais, reuni\u00f5es e cerim\u00f3nias de inicia\u00e7\u00e3o. Depois de uma mulher ter um beb\u00e9, o marido tinha de esperar 4 dias para ver o rec\u00e9m-nascido. Durante esses 4 dias, ele preparava o vinho de mel que seria bebido com a comunidade durante a apresenta\u00e7\u00e3o oficial da crian\u00e7a. Sempre que havia conflitos, realizavam-se reuni\u00f5es para encontrar uma solu\u00e7\u00e3o e o vinho de mel era consumido para simbolizar a uni\u00e3o da comunidade. O vinho era tamb\u00e9m utilizado nos rituais que se realizavam durante as calamidades como as cheias, a seca e os rel\u00e2mpagos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Como \u00e9 que o Presidium contribuiu para a preserva\u00e7\u00e3o do ecossistema da Floresta Mau?<br>Atrav\u00e9s do Presidium, a comunidade intensificou os seus esfor\u00e7os para proteger a Floresta Mau como a sua casa ancestral e para promover as suas pr\u00e1ticas tradicionais de apicultura, tendo a maioria dos membros dos grupos aderido \u00e0s Associa\u00e7\u00f5es Florestais Comunit\u00e1rias (CFA). Os produtores de mel t\u00eam participado na planta\u00e7\u00e3o de \u00e1rvores nativas para contrariar a introdu\u00e7\u00e3o de \u00e1rvores ex\u00f3ticas na floresta, que amea\u00e7am o futuro do mel local \u00fanico. Al\u00e9m disso, desde 2015, a comunidade Ogiek tem participado em iniciativas de turismo respons\u00e1vel em colabora\u00e7\u00e3o com a Funda\u00e7\u00e3o Slow Food para a Biodiversidade e a NECOFA (Rede para a Ecofarming em \u00c1frica). Para al\u00e9m disso, a comunidade ganhou recentemente uma batalha legal de 8 anos (defendendo o seu direito a viver na floresta) que foi, ela pr\u00f3pria, uma continua\u00e7\u00e3o de outras batalhas legais que remontam \u00e0 era colonial nos anos 30, quando o povo Ogiek foi exterminado e expulso das suas terras ancestrais para dar lugar aos colonos. A cria\u00e7\u00e3o de reservas florestais tamb\u00e9m impediu os Ogiek de acederem \u00e0s suas terras. Alguns membros da comunidade Ogiek come\u00e7aram a mudar o seu modo de vida tradicional, adoptando a cria\u00e7\u00e3o de gado, a agricultura e outras actividades econ\u00f3micas. A intera\u00e7\u00e3o com o mundo exterior tamb\u00e9m contribuiu significativamente para a perturba\u00e7\u00e3o do ecossistema florestal e, por conseguinte, do lar dos Ogieks.
