They are the result of interacting pressures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pests and diseases: above all the Varroa mite and the viruses it transmits. Globally, it remains the number one threat to honey bees, and it weakens colonies&#8217; resilience to everything else.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Nutrition: landscape simplification, monocultures and the loss of flowering margins mean that bees too often face periods of hunger, or a diet that is abundant but poor in diversity. A poorly fed colony is more vulnerable to disease and to pesticides.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pesticides: not only acute poisoning, but sublethal effects and mixtures of substances that affect navigation, immunity and reproduction, and which current risk assessment does not fully capture.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Climate change: beekeepers see it directly: shifting flowering periods, mild winters that keep colonies active, droughts that wipe out nectar flows, and extreme weather events. The timing between plants and pollinators is breaking down.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Economic pressure on beekeepers: a driver that is often missing from scientific discussions. Honey adulteration and fraud depress prices worldwide. When beekeeping is no longer viable, beekeepers give up, and with them we lose managed pollination services, local knowledge and the eyes on the ground that monitor pollinator health.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Apimondia thinks that protecting pollinators also means protecting the people who keep them.
