This hornet was first detected in 2023 in Georgia and has since spread to South Carolina. According to <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.clemson.edu\/regulatory\/category\/yellow-legged-hornet\/#&amp;_intcmp=fxw_lifestyle_article_main-content_article-body_2_21\" title=\"\">Hornet Herald<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 <\/em>a newsletter established by Clemson University following the arrival of <em>V. velutina<\/em> to monitor this species \u2013 102 embryo nests were removed in 2026, and more than 3,500 queens were captured using traps.
