Lanzarote, one of the islands of the\u00a0Canary Archipelago, has received a shipment of\u00a0Black Canarian queen bees\u00a0from\u00a0La Palma, another island in the same archipelago. These bees, also known as\u00a0Canarian dark bees, are the native honey bee subspecies of the Canary Islands.
As reported by the local magazine\u00a0Gazette Life, the delivery is the result of a collaborative effort between public institutions and beekeeping organizations to provide purebred Canarian bees to the island\u2019s beekeepers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Lanzarote there are12 active beekeepers managing more than 300 hives, as well as the Lanzarote Beekeepers\u2019 Association, which will manage the new queen bees at the island\u2019s Experimental Agricultural Farm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
