Rome – Prof. Dr. Peter Kozmus, President of Apimondia, actively represented the Federation at the high-level event “Towards a Global Pollinator Platform”, organized by the German Ambassador in Rome at the Embassy of Germany.

The event brought together international policymakers, biodiversity leaders, and technical experts to discuss the urgent need to strengthen global coordination for the conservation and sustainable use of pollinators. Representatives from key international institutions, including the Food and Agriculture Organization, participated in the dialogue.

During the round table discussion, President Peter Kozmus presented Apimondia’s mission and its global role as the leading international federation connecting beekeepers, scientists, and institutions worldwide. He explained how Apimondia works at the intersection of science, practice, and policy, and highlighted the major challenges currently facing the beekeeping sector — including honey adulteration, biodiversity loss, climate change impacts, and the need for balanced, science-based approaches to pollinator protection.

In his intervention, President Kozmus expressed strong support for the initiative to establish a Global Pollinator Platform and reaffirmed Apimondia’s readiness to actively contribute to its development. He stressed that effective global cooperation must be grounded in scientific evidence, inclusiveness, and practical field experience.

He also underlined the importance of recognizing the complementary roles of managed honey bees and wild pollinators within sustainable food systems and global biodiversity frameworks.

The event concluded with a honey tasting organized by Apimondia, featuring selected honeys from Slovenia, Italy, and Germany. Participants enthusiastically sampled the different varieties and appreciated the diversity, quality, and richness of European beekeeping traditions.

Under the leadership of President Kozmus, Apimondia continues to strengthen its engagement with international partners and to promote coordinated global action for the protection of pollinators.
