Italian veterinary authorities have confirmed a new detection of Aethina tumida in Italy. Several specimens have been found in honey bee colonies in the Lazio region. This is the first detection of the small hive beetle in Central Italy. According to the authorities, the small hive beetle was introduced through the illegal movement of hives from the Calabria region, where Aethina tumida has been present since 2014.
