Índia, a expansão

Aethina tumida was first detected in India in 2022 in the state of West Bengal. Since then, the small hive beetle has spread across the country, reaching several other states, including Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand.

A new study published in Apidologie documents the expansion of the beetle, analysing its initial introduction – most likely from Bangladesh – and its spread in both Apis mellifera Apis cerana. To date, a total of 1,119 Apis melliferacolonies and 16 Apis cerana colonies have been reported as infected.
