حتى في نفس البيئة، تتعرض أنواع مختلفة من النحل للمعادن الثقيلة بدرجات متفاوتة.
According to a study carried out at Cambridge University and recently published in Ecological Entomology, bumble bee colonies and honey bee colonies located in the same area collect different amounts of contaminants. Bumble bees can accumulate up to seven times more heavy metals in the pollen they collect and up to three times more of these contaminants in their bodies compared with honey bees. This difference could be due to the smaller foraging range of bumble bees, which may limit their ability to avoid polluted areas, as well as to the greater amount of hair on their bodies.
The study highlights the greater exposure of bumble bees to these pollutants. But it could also be interesting for different biomonitoring approaches.
